Okay, look. I think this was something LONG OVERDUE. I and many others have been complaining forever about how innocent videos of little girls posting gym practice to weird ASMR videos were pulling attention from adult creeps. One of the ideas was for kids to not be allowed to post videos that did not show an adult present, or at the very least for them to not be allowed to stream unless an adult is present. Which wasn't exactly the best solution, as many boys like to stream their gaming, which posed no immediate threat. This was mostly a little girl problem.
BUT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR A VERY VERY LONG TIME, AND NOTHING WAS DONE.

No, I'm not shilling for that weird little girl who in all honesty should not be putting herself out on the Internet like this. I've been on the "anti-Soph" side of this argument, my reasons being 1. She's a kid. Stop being a creep and making her out to be some sort of Joan of Arc and 2. Concerns that she will ruin her life, as the Internet is forever, and people are shitbags. WHAT PISSES ME OFF ABOUT THIS is Youtube did not know what to do about the Soph problem, and to deal with Soph, ONLY NOW they've decided to implement rules to prevent minors from streaming or posting videos without an adult present. How else can you explain the timing of this? THERE IS NO OTHER EXPLANATION.

EXACTLY. What did they do? The only thing they did was disable comments on channels, "to protect children." That was IT. And it was an extremely hamfisted thing to do, as it impacted many channels that weren't doing anything wrong.

There is something a bit off about that kid. When I first saw a video I thought it was a boy. Just odd. I'm still going to assume this is a kid we're talking about, which is why I didn't pay much attention to it. The shitstorm did catch my attention. And I cannot help but get pissed right now, because it seems obvious to me the only reason Youtube is cutting kids off from streaming or posting videos without an adult present is because of Soph. Youtube was making good bank off those kids with their little monetized ASMR channels and gaming channels. They couldn't be bothered to take any action to protect children FROM THEMSELVES before. But now that one child is saying politically incorrect things? OY VEY SHUT IT DOWN.

I don't think children should be live-streaming or posting videos online. They're kids, the Internet is forever, etc. What I take issue with is after many years of complaining about this, Youtube FINALLY takes action shortly after Soph's little potty mouth goes viral. Really?
I do feel bad for kids who were just streaming their gaming sessions. No parent is going to want to sit still for that.
