Used to be a doorman in a building with enormously wealthy people in NYC and can confirm, I would get upwards of 10k a year in tips. This is really only in large cities though, and generally for the superintendent/doormen/porters- not the landlord. They would tip us because we would help them with minor things throughout the year, and they were all absurdly wealthy. The super at my old building would get 30-40k easy every christmas, you have no expenses and live in an awesome apartment rent and utility free, but his base pay sucks. Ironically these are all union jobs.

As a landlord I can confirm 25% is the proper tip on your rent. Anything less and you are a nigger.
