All Walmarts have self checkouts now. A lot of them also have a (minimum wage) employee with a hand scanner who will sort of roam around checking out random people. Credit card only.

We've had them for years at grocery and department stores but they generally also have a person or 3 working the cash registers, I generally don't use them but yesterday was the first time I had no choice the registers were all closed felt bad man. It was actually the store I got my first job as a teenager many years ago too.

I refuse to use those self checkout machines. Self service gas, being expected to bus my own table at a restaurant, etc all cheapen my experience.
There was a store in Chicago that had a special laundry for the cash in the registers so customers would not be handed dirty money. I miss service like that.

What about them? I worked in retail for 14 years in various aspects in many time zones. Cashiers are like any other group of people, a few winners, a whole lotta losers. I worked one summer as a register bitch. I can scan faster than the majority of cashier's and know how I want my groceries sorted.

I exclusively use the self checkout unless the store is nice enough to hire white teenagers as cashier's, then I'll go through the line. Most places hire niggers though so it's not worth easting my time to have to deal with them plus have them touch my food.

Self checkouts are amazing if you have about a dozen items. Don't go spending your monthly EBT allowance at once. Way better than having to wait 15 goddamn minutes because only one register is open because they refuse to hire anymore cashiers and just rely on "code spark" which is basically anybody who's registered trained is forced up to the front to ring register until the lines die down because the front end can't cope. Not my fucking problem.

I just wait at the main checkout even if there are a few people in front. If nobody is there I will wait until somebody comes over and serves me. You pay a premium to shop in places like Tesco's so why should I have to checkout my own shopping in your store.

Pretty sure there are no places that only have self checkouts
I use them every time I can though, often no line and very fast if you only have few items which I often do since I like to shop every day or every other day
Only times I don't use them is when I want to pay with cash for some reason and when I shop late when the area is closed

If I have only a few items, I choose to use self-checkout. Faster and easier than waiting in line behind multiple people who are buying dozens of items.

For those who drive these around, you can definitely tell it's not somebody excessively spending their EBT allowance. Yeah, I was kind of apprehensive at first because there was a clear absence of a child holder in the front, but it makes sense if you're not buying a shit ton of items, but just enough where the hand basket just wont do the trick.

A supermarket close to my parents house had a pilot program where they used the first iteration of these self-checkout machines. Difference was that it wasn’t some shitty self check-out station, but instead it had a front end where goods were scanned and rolled to another side on a conveyor belt. Also made it way more difficult for people to steal shit because walking from one side to the other meant that your cart or basket needed to be empty. It worked better than expected, these modern versions are fucking cancer and I’m surprised they went with this shitty design, there is honestly more to be gained by optimizing online shopping than trying to phase out cashiers.

I always used them. It's faster and more efficient, plus I don't have to speak or look at anyone.
