No, the apollo missions placed lunar laser rangefinders on the moon... retroreflectors to bounce lasers off of that return the laser beam towards the emitter.

they did this to be able to accurately measure the distance from the earth to the moon, and if you go to an observatory, you can actually detect the reflected laser signal.
