If you read his legal opinion, he blocked Trump's wall because an activist environmentalist group named Sierra Club said the Border Wall would interfere with night time fishing alongside the border due to Border Patrol using Floodlights.
Obama Judge from California placed an illegal injunction on Trump building a wall in New Mexico because the Seirra Club argued to the judge that building a wall will interfere with their night time fishing along the border.

The Supreme Court has granted some of Trump's emergency appeals that skip the appeals court entirely.
The 2020 Census Lawsuits were successfully appealed by Trump and the Supreme Court granted cert even though some of those lawsuits didn't get a chance to be appealed to circuit courts.
Trump did mention he wanted to emergency appeal this ruling too.
Problem is Trump made no specifics. Does he want emergency appeal to the 9th Circuit or ask the Supreme Court to decide this nationwide injunction shit once and for all.
Remember Circuit Court of Appeals is usually 3 judge panels.
Trump successfully added 3 Trump judges to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals although there is no guarantee Trump judges will get to hear this case since judge panels are done by randomized drawing.

I think you're slightly misunderstanding the argument, the injunction is being granted because the judge believes that not granting it will cause irreparable harm even if the plaintiff's case succeeds which he believes is greater than the harm caused by the injunction. Without getting technical, if the judge thinks the plaintiff's case has any merit at all he can grant an injunction for that reason. The case hasn't actually been adjudicated yet.
