he subscribes to the protestant doctrine of sola fide, which is reskinned gnostic soteriology. gnostics get their name from their idea that the way to escape the evil material world was by obtaining secret knowledge (gnosis). replace "knowledge" with "belief" (which aren't that different on an epistemological level) and you have luther's sola fide. granted, protestants don't believe in a demiurge or a dualistic "matter bad, spirit good" system, but that's why they're only pseudo-gnostic.

I'm praying to a saint to ask them to pray for me. People do this IRL to other people they know, they ask their friends or whatever to pray for them. St.Paul also asks his colleagues to pray for him in the letters of the New Testament. An idol is a statue. Worship means this:
