They convinced their idiot voters that there's a smoking gun hidden somewhere in the Mueller report but they can't get at it for reasons, so they need to win in 2020 so they can expose Trump's crimes. So they need to drag this narrative out for the next 17 months without actually getting the info which would end it. They'll have to keep having hearings like this were they question people nonsensically, so the media can spin it as progress toward impeachment.
That's all they've got, because they were so sure Mueller would save them by getting Trump to obstruct the investigation that they never bothered to come up with a Plan B.
