I always keep field guides for wild edibles and wild mushrooms with me on hikes. I forage a lot, and over the past few years have gotten to where I can identify most plants and fungi in the eastern United States even memorizing most of the scientific names. It’s a fun and rewarding hobby that gives me a lot of easy and delicious free food, but also means I will probably not go hungry in a crisis.
