Humor is an evolved trait where men try to convince women they are clever. It's literally for men to show off to women.
Females don't need much intelligence and they win mates largely through physical attractiveness, so there was never any selection pressure for them to develop humor skills, other than evaluating the humor, and laughing at jokes is a lot easier than producing them.
