I think you got that backwards. No one ever called him yeshua. Why would they? God himself instructed Joseph to name him Jesus. The J is spoken differently in english than ancient greek/modern german/modern norwegian for sure. But his name has never been and will never be the random hebrew name; yeshua.

You're reading a translation of a translation of a translation. Jesus and the other apostles have hellenized hebrew names in the bible because that's the version of the bible most others stem from. Jesus's original name was Yeshua bar Yosef
