Christian morality has been dead for far longer. With few exceptions, it's been reduced to "turn the other cheek" and "be degenerate all you want, God forgives you anyway lol".
What killed it? There are plenty of factors, to be sure, but the overarching theme I see is that of "democracy"--the notion that a group of selfish, degenerate sinners can collectively define for themselves what does or doesn't constitute morality. Or worse, each individual defines their own 'rules'--such that no morals ever matter across a society.

These same people who adopt a harsh view towards pedos, for example, are probably completely fine with fornication, and relatively tolerant (compared to the past) of adultery.
