just found out my future wife is a carried of some rare L1 genetic disorder that will mean I will be unable to have a male heir, as he will be infertile and mentally handicapped. Any advice for this feel?

It's a rare L1 disorder, it appears to be a unique specific mutation but in its effects it is quite similar to MASA syndrome. From anecdotal experience it seems like there is actually a higher than 50% chance of it being passed on, but I personally do not know if this is possible or they were simply unlucky. To date, all 4 sons born to her grandmother/aunt have been affected, and the only person confirmed to not carry it is her aunt (who married my uncle) and they have a healthy son.
Adopt kids of a similar genetic background as you and your wife (Not huwhite kids, but kids of actually similar genetic stock) and raise them properly.

If this isnt a dumb bait go to a genetic counselor and plan accordingly. Theyll help you figure out the odds of a healthy son etc. dont just guess this stuff get actual statistics to help u plan if its worth trying for a non expressed son. Theyll probably want you your wife and anyone else you can to get sequenced btw.
