Grew up in 80s. Got migraines and massive anxiety from freaking about how nuclear war. Was literally physically ill for days at a time. It sucked but I honestly miss the clear cut Manichean view of the world. Good vs evil was so clear. No tertiary characters fucking things up. If the world was going to end you knew how. Vaguely. Almost comforting.

The cold war never really ended. We are currently closer to a nuclear war now in many ways. Russia's conventional forces are now weak, thus they are even more likely to resort to a nuclear attack than before.
Just because the media isn't talking about the impending WWIII, doesn't mean we aren't heading to one right now. That's why the world is more dangerous now because we lost that sense of danger and stakes.
