The lunch debt thing is stupid, but I believe it's because the schools give the kids the ability to buy extra food, so it's not like they have to go into debt just to eat. It's still unethical that they do that though. In my highschool we had regular boring lunch, or the subway that was somehow allowed to set up shop in the cafeteria. It's hard for kids to resist that kind of temptation.

in my early 20s i romantized that van life style. i end up buying a 85 dodge van for 600$, it needed a new smog pump, but drove. had captain chairs, 2nd row captain chairs, a kitchenette, a futon and a small bw tv. i sold as i was in college and moving, so i didn't have time to fix it up. every now and then i browse craigslist and think what could of been.
Cost wise, you have to be spending less then 10-20$ a day on food or you might and well just rent and have roommates. Cooking is hard, or hardish with out cold storage, and you can't really buy in bulk. Its doable. Rent will just go to food. You'll probably ea tout more and buy more pre made packaged food. But van camping/traveling sounds fun.
Meanwhile illegals get everything for free (paid by the taxes from the workers living in their cars) WHILE they push down wages. Absolutely capitalism's fault, yeah.
