For one could outwardly act in such a manner, but inwardly could consciously reject the same foundation from which the ideal comes.
If A implies B, and if C also implies B, one could accept B and also accept either A or C (or neither)
One can have a different set of underlying beliefs, but which implies a conduct similar or identical to the Christian ideals. Accepting the different beliefs would result in a similar outward conduct, but they would not be Christian.
Likewise, one could purposefully be mimicking Christian conduct in order to perpetuate a fraud. This is what false prophets do. "See I am a Christian because I act like a Christian!" Yet inwardly they deny Christ and have motives antithetical to His truth.
To deny this is to deny the possibility of false prophets, something of which we have been specifically warned by Christ Himself.
And it is exactly what Peterson does. He declares himself one who acts as a Christian, yet openly denies the belief that is required to be a Christian. And worse still he tries to convince people that all that is needed is the act and not the belief. Not only is he justifiably called a false prophet, but he paves the way for more false prophets!

For the Christian, the belief leads to the conduct; you would know he is not a believer if his conduct implies otherwise. But the existence of the conduct does not necessarily imply the belief; the conduct could be resulting from another belief, or even be purposefully mimicked to perpetuate a fraud.
Its simple logic that both you and Peterson are ignoring. If (if A implies B) is true, and if B is true, it does not mean that A is true. But if A is true, then it necessitates that B is true. Plug in for A (One holds Christian beliefs) and for B (One acts in accord with Christian ideals) and you should see what I mean.
Your conception to the contrary suggest that the acts cause the belief, and not that the belief causes the acts.

First off, why would you assume he is not lying or mistaken about his belief?
Secondly, he believes in morality. Morality implies a Categorical Imperative. A Categorical Imperative necessitates a monotheistic G-d.
