Property taxes were made so only banks could afford to buy all the real estate. They can easily write it off as a tax deduction.

Geolibertarians have a good idea to tax the unimproved value of the land - so the resources and water access provide extra value to be taxed, but not the house or well you built on the property. It's incentive to improve the land to the fullest capacity.

To be completely fair, it's not a purely voluntary exchange because the unemployed person is stuck between starvation or employment. Basically caught between a rock and a hard place. I'll give you a great example. My dad worked as a general contractor for the government and was paid $140k a year. His contract expired because rather than renew, the government wanted to create his job as a permanent position. So they interviewed him for his own job, but no job offer until after his contract expired and he was unemployed. They offered him I think $100k and he wanted more, obviously, and they countered with "well what are you making now?" To which the answer was $0. So they fucked him over completely, which you can extrapolate to any unemployed person: their choice is starve to death or take whatever meager wage an employer pays, and under the threat of starvation they arent truly free and willingly entering into that agreement. It's a metaphorical gun to the head, where everyone would agree that a literal gun to the head invalidates any "agreements" made.

Why does that help the middle class? Because expensive labor means that a lot of the wealth that would have gone into employers' pockets actually goes into workers' pockets.
