I have never once heard someone attacking/criticizing communism phrase it even remotely close to how she presents it. I'm guessing the only time she has ever been presented with an argument against communism is when her socialist professor made a strawman that would be easy to argue against as an assignment.

The most common one sentence argument against communism I see is "Communism doesn't work because people aren't ants".

my main criticism of communism is that it literally is not possible to maintain. even small hippie communes fail consistently, let alone nation states that approach the concept. there has never been a single communist nation, though many nations with castes and state capitalism and black/legal markets have called themselves "communist". to get actual communism to work you would need a state surveillance and security system almost as robust as the population itself, or else people will as they observably do naturally horde wealth/exploit the environment for wealth/form black markets/accept bribes etc. etc.

I suppose you could manage something like it with like a super complex automated security system on a national scale but then you're getting into some THX1138 shit and it's hard to call that communism. and such a hypothetical system can still be exploited.

an actual attempt at communism on a nation state scale would have zero cohesion because everyone would have to agree to some kind of code of conduct and somehow organize the infrastructure to redistribute materials and goods on a national scale while absolutely nobody takes advantage of the transition to amass wealth and power, internally or externally. the security and surveillance required to enforce such a system is ludicrous, so people would all have to magically agree or something. it literally is not possible on the scale of a nation state to attempt. and that's just discussing the attempt, if it was somehow magically implemented it would have to persist, and that's equally impossible. this is proven watching tiny hippie communes, all of which fail within a few decades.
