Central social systems always prevail over decentralized systems, one god = common ideals and collective. just like nation states became stronger than city states, over time more centralization = more power.
In the beginning there were small tribes who settled in cities and started agriculture which is a centralized way of food production compared with hunting/gathering. Then cities built walls to and started electing kings which is a central form of government. Later cities became nations and empires ( Romans ), and after that nations were replaced trans national ideologies such as communism, and now we have the idea of massive blocks like EU,US, East EU+Asian spheres of influence.
Eventually there will be one world government , not that i want it to happen, but history shows that over time every social system becomes centralized.
