A cheap drug for millions adds up to a large cost. Why would we want to increase production costs by 1% just so that an animal is not in pain for 2 seconds. Animals naturally experience pain and when you kill an animal in a slaughterhouse the pain is likely less than dying of disease, old age, or a predator.

it's not wrong you tree hugging retard. There is a capitalistic drive for slaughterhouses to ensure the animals die as painlessly as possible or else their bodies will instantly release stress hormones which ruins the meat, reducing profits because nobody likes/buys chewy gross meat.
A captive bolt pistol painlessly smashes in the animals frontal portion of their brain, crushing it, within a hundredth of a second. They feel nothing if the process is done correctly.
Not that I give a shit, but it would be a waste of meat.
