Anyone suggesting modern programmers are smart should be shot. Programming used to require a high IQ but now you can just copy paste shit from websites to get the job done. Every program or website that's been through five iterations or more is a fucking abomination hacked together out of bits and pieces of existing stuff and cheats. Went to uni for compsci. Now I work in agriculture and I'm happy. I picked up a second language, got Jow Forums while being paid, and work outside. Much better than sitting at a desk staring at a screen. I do still enjoy doing Project Euler math challenges tho

When I started my career I had a shit job where I had to do webshit and javascript (i was not even qualified to do this i have a phd in theoretical computer science and specialize in systems programming)
All my colleagues were trannies and sòÿboys and nonwhites. All of them very stupid and bad at what they do, not programmers. Only mere designers and "library assemblers".
I moved up ranks very fast and the higher I got the less of these trannies I have seen and more white straight christian males, very racist coming from aristocratic backgrounds.
Now I'm a project leader and we make interesting technology and all my subordinates are very good at what they do, all come from theoretical backgrounds or are excellent techniciens with a talent. All white straight males.
We work and make critical systems for aeronautical companies.

If you're in the position I was i when I started don't give up, just do your job good, work on interesting and technically challenging personal projects (your work will never give you interesting stuff to do at the webshit level) and get involved with interesting and technically challenging communities and projects, make connections send résumés and present your work.

I've worked in a start up where we were 8, on the 8 only 2 programmers. It was literally both of us trying to work while the others were doing jack shit (except the salesman who was really trying his best to secure customers). This start up only existed because it got gibs, and it failed in 6 months.

Fun fact : I was told after that we (the 2 programmers) were the least paid of the company.

I reject that. I was a chef for a decade and got sick of working with miserable drug addicts and alcoholics. Being surrounded by miserable people every day just make it impossible to be positive. So I taught myself iOS development since I’ve always been a passive coder since middle school. After about 6 months of studying, I got an internship and then a startup hired me. I tripled my income in one year and have doubled it again since then. I’d agree there are many weak-minded ‘men’ in this field, and the women in this field are almost always insufferable, but to argue that coding attracts weak mean is disingenuous. I was attracted to it for a better quality of life. Who wouldn’t want that when you’re busting your ass in kitchens every day for $15/hr? I think the difference is that the weak men expect jobs to be handed to them because they have a degree. I don’t have a comp sci degree but I have a chef’s work ethic and that is something college can never instill in someone. Until you’ve worked manual labor for literal garbage wages, you can never appreciate hard work.

It’s called Price’s Law. It’s not just in coding, it’s in every field. Basically 10% of the workforce produce 50% of the output. The top 10% of those people produce 25% of the output alone. So if you have 100 coders, 10 of them are writing half of your code and of those 10, 1 of them is writing 25% of the code himself. This is fundamentally why Socialism never succeeds. i grew up in the trades (worked for dads construction company) and then worked in mining for years after uni which involves a lot of manual labor. i quit and now i do freelance work automating peoples stock trading strategies.

the outside time and exercise is great but the downsides of trades are
1) nearly everyone who works in the trades is an alcoholic or addicted to pills or dumb
2) the work is repetitive and can break your body over time

i work on my house and in my small orchard and thats enough for me. if you aren’t addicted and have strong character you can be extremely successful in the trades. it just wasnt for me.
