Assuming you are right, have you ever seen the sphinx? Other than the head (which I agree was added on or modified at some point), the body is rudimentary as fuck. It is a clumsily carved piece of limestone. I think it makes the most sense that the body represents one of the first attempts at stonework by the Egyptians, probably before the pyramids, which were far more advanced. But if it was constructed by a pre-Egyptian civilization, it was carved by a very basic one. It hardly shows the signs of an advanced lost civilization with any great knowledge. It is basic as fuck.

I would love to have a copy. I'm sure it would be interesting to read. That being said, a lot of archeologists of Hall's era were basically good story tellers. They operated with minimal equipment, no internet, and spoke to a public that was for the most part entirely uneducated. They could say whatever they wanted and be no more or less believable than the next man, their profitability and staying power mostly determined by how entertaining they could be.
