I've heard their arguments, but I don't find them very convincing. However, the key things to know about the end are told by Jesus in the gospels, including in Matthew. (And much more easily understood at that.) So it's probably best and safest to go primarily by the gospels' account of the end times, in my opinion.

It's hard to have a precise notion of which country is the most Christian, since nominal self-identification throws off the stats. The U.S. isn't very Christian anymore (I don't know that there are any countries that are these days), but when it used to be fairly Christian it was far from degenerate. (The same is true of England, Canada, Germany, Sweden, etc.)

It's a very difficult book to understand but it is the one we are in now. There is a lot of knowledge in it about the last days but given how Jesus own apostles were often confused by what he said it makes sense that we would also be confused by it.
