Most forests in the mountain ranges were spared. Massive deforestation only happened on the plains.
In Western Europe many old forests got cut down during the First Industrial Revolution, In Central Europe, deforestation started in the XIX-XX. century, while many ancient forests survived in Eastern and Northern Europe to this day, mostly in Belarus, Finland and Russia.
The Carpathians are also covered in ancient forests, though hohols and romaniggers are steadily destroying them.
