I spent 2 months working in Finland 10 years ago, I had a nice apartment near the train station and all the shops I needed were nearby.

The longest conversation I had outside of work was with a Finnish man who asked me for a cigarette while waiting for the train, he was there every day dressed for work so I assumed he wasnt some heroin addict. We spoke for a few minutes in English about how the conditions where I'm from in Scotland were a few degrees warmer, with less snowy months in winter but more shit because theres less sun all year round.
I saw the same guy for weeks every morning but never spoke to them again, just gave them a polite nod when we made eye contact to say hello.
Spending so much time alone and just relaxing all day was maybe the best 2 months of my life.

I love Finland.
Went to Helsinki back in November to kick off an Active Directory Migration project for a big company. What I got to see of Helsinki was great. Felt more blue collar than Stockholm or Oslo. The director invited us to a dinner at the Helsinki Finnish Club. Stayed at a Raddison Blu. The people, the food, the Aquavit were all fantastic. Hope to have the opportunity to visit again sometime.
