Things like tax and tuition are also running way over 10% per year. Every level of government in Canada is squeezing the electorate for more cash to pay for mass immigration and growing crime and homelessness. So now chicken, beef, milk and cheese can continue to appreciate in price by 10-20%/year and the CPI basket won't include any of it, just cheap carbs.

when the government pays way more than it can possibly cover with revenue and they devalue the currency, but they make sure to manipulate the "core" CPI as if they were the goddamn USSR and pretend that everything is fine, make sure you don't do the really IRRESPONSIBLE and DANGEROUS behavior of actually recording prices in the market
