The interesting part about the Iran story is that it comes as Russia has been having problems with Iran. There is every reason to believe that Russia is pushing the US into a war with Iran (both in public and in their behind the scenes propaganda) in the hopes that the US solves their problem while weakening themselves.

Iran was a perfect example of how things can get out of hand when you don't pay close enough attention.
1. They were always considered a smaller piece in the larger cold war plan. So we never thought of them as being worth our full attention.
2. Because we wanted to keep the Shah in power, we turned a blind eye to the shit his secret police were pulling on his own citizens.

A war with Iran would be great for Russia, as long as they aren't the ones fighting it. They would prefer we got stuck in country for the long term, like we did in Iraq and they did in Afghanistan.
As far as China , they're going to take Taiwan even if we don't have a war with Iran. They've figured out that American doesn't have the moral will to fight a war with them over Taiwan, and they know we are afraid of them crashing our economy by dumping our debt all at once.

Frankly, now would be the time to make the deal with them. I don't know how closely you keep up on politics and economics in KSA, but they are in serious trouble. The drop in oil prices combined with their cash burn rate means they are going to be insolvent within 5 years. Once they stop bribing their citizens, heads are going to get lopped off.
A revolution in KSA is an absolute certainty. A good reason to make other friends before that happens.
