They can give you a pretty good idea of the aircraft's RCS, which you can compare to other type of planes and get a pretty good idea of what aircraft it is. On top of that, the iranians are known for sending reconaissance drone shadowing american ones and as if that isn't enough, they tracked the drone from the moment it took off from its air base and could have easily identified it with satellite or thermal images.

It's not fool proof but using altitude data, speed and RCS, they can rule out most type of aircraft and then check which ones match the aircraft that the americans operate in the region or have stored in the specific air base it took off. The fact that the Rq-4 flies with a p-8 makes it even easier to ID it, assuming they haven't done so via thermal cameras when the planes passed by one of the islands in the persian gulf.
