Lviv is my personal favorite, Chernivtsi, Ternopol, Odessa, Kyiv are all great. The mountains in the west are also nice. As for the Donbass region, the war has largely subsided but not entirely, armed clashes still occur on a regular basis, including artillery fire. You'd probably get stopped at a military checkpoint and be told to gtfo before entering anywhere too dangerous though. Still not worth it imo, especially considering that Donetsk and Luhansk are both pretty unimpressive.

Not speaking Ukranian shouldn't be an issue, younger people usually speak at least some English and are typically very helpful and happy to practice the language. Learning a few basic phrases could be helpful, especially in the countryside.

Well I've visited place like the Canary Islands and Italy before, not speaking the language and it went okay, but that was because it was hot spots where English had a purpose.

Ukraine is by far one of my most favourite countries: it is extremely underrated and is absolutely amazing in many ways. Food is awesome, people are super friendly and cheeeaaap.

I agree with I was born in ternopil and later moved here and obtained citizenship. You should definitely check out Carpathian mountains. It looks like the alps and it's absolutely beautiful. Driving through Ukraine is also pretty cool (to a degree) there's just endless fields of flowers and sometimes farms. It can look like a fairytale land sometimes.

Also, if you're considering moving there, teaching English is your best (and virtually only) option of making a living unless you bother to learn the language. Native speakers are highly sought after in eastern europe and aren't expected to speak the language of their host country at any level. Expect a comfortable wage 2-3x higher than the national average (still very low compared to US standards, however the cost of living is drastically cheaper in Ukraine)

Used to live in Ukraine before moving here as well, it's definitely overblown as being a shithole and I'd honestly rather go back.

That was my plan, just wasn't sure if basic phrases would really help me in this case, since Ukraine has never struck me as a place where English would be even a third language, but thank you for the tip!

The best way I can describe the conflict in Crimea is imagine you live in Oregon and there's a war going on between North Carolina and South Carolina. At the end of the day you don't really give a shit. Yes if that war spreads across the country it could suck for you but for the last 6 years it's been confined to that area.

The things you would take for granted and just assume everywhere has (like a functioning sidewalk) are only for people that choose to pay for such things. I've been to restaurants and nightclubs in Kyiv where I may as well be in Los Angeles or NYC. Clean bathrooms, great decor, amazing food, wifi and outlets everywhere. Then you can go outside and 1 door over it looks like a bomb went off.

However with that said let us set something straight. There is no serious crime or drug problems in Ukraine. People are flat broke. Insanely poor, but that's it. Totally different to places in the west that are poor and often infested with crime and drugs. With all this said I would highly recommend a visit. It's one of my favourite countries in Europe. Everyone has the typical emotionless Slavic 1000 yard stare in public but once you get to know people they're insanely warm and welcoming. Ukrainians know they don't have a lot of money but they make do with what they have. I saw so much great stuff creatively over there and they have a real community driven mentality of working together because they know they have such little international support.

Also because this is Jow Forums I will mention it. Ukraine has one of the strongest and most youthful right wing / nationalist communities in all of Europe. You will see young beautiful couples wearing NSBM t-shirts and all sorts of other crazy stuff. The people you will talk to for a lot of them many of Jow Forums's main talking points are treated as common sense. They'll tell you of course they know the Jews run the world, do people in the West not believe that? It's really fucking wild to experience in person.

Also everything is stupidly inexpensive for a westerner. With my brother I ate at the most expensive and lauded restaurant in Kyiv. Ordered 5 courses with wine and a charcuterie, one of the best meals I've had in my life. If it was here in Vancouver or any other major US city the bill would have been easily $200 for each of us. The cheque comes and it was $23 CAD for each of us. Just absolutely insane. If you want to eat like a normal Ukrainian person and get a basic soup, sandwich, and drink for lunch it will be around $2 USD. If you're on vacation and want to go crazy you can live like a king.

So in conclusion: country is not dangerous except for one small part, people are based and redpilled, not everything is beautiful but plenty of places are just as modern as anywhere else, extremely inexpensive.

English is compulsory in schools in most of Europe. Of course, the level of education varies. Ukraine is at the lower end, but people under 40 are usually at least somewhat proficient, more so in bigger cities, less so in rural areas

The East of Ukraine is populated entirely by ethnic Russians (either those who still adhere to their identity or those who hate themselves)
