Cams on cops are a good idea to hold everyone involved in incidents accountable. I'm against monitoring the public with cams on street posts or whatever, though.

More importantly: cops have more leeway in shootings than civilians do, even though they are supposed to be super well-trained and are supposed to know the law etc.

The thin blue line is real. Cops protect cops, even when they're wrong. The other government agencies that are supposed to keep cops in check usually just protect them (they scratch each other's backs due to the checks and balances between them).

Also, there are a lot of arrests that take place when a power tripping beta cop gets pissed off. I like to call those charges "contempt of cop".

I'm no expert, but their body cams are such a minor detail compared to the mountains of other shit that needs to get dealt with.

That being said, there are still some great cops out there.

I consider my department to be invasive with them. I've even dubbed the phrase "invasive wearable technology," because they force us to wear them on our heads which is uncomfortable as fuck. I have callouses behind my ears and cists on the cartilage (probably some early stage of cancer from having an electronic device so close to them all damn day) all so they can not only see everything I'm doing, but which degree my head was cocked while doing it. The administration definitely abuses these things, and I can see corporations and even low level employers doing the same in the future. Let's say Amazon wants to deter package thefts and damaged packages, they then force all their employees to bolt cameras to their heads for the entirety of their shift. Delivery drivers to make sure they're actually doing deliveries, retail workers to make sure they're not stealing merchandise, fast food workers even to make sure they're not fucking with the food. The future is bleak and you all welcomed it with thunderous applause. I do think it's necessary in my field, just fucking hi wearing it on my head. Gonna quit soon anyway and that's 50% of the reasons why.

Mandatory at all times while on duty. Any case where there is no visual footage of the arrest is automatically thrown out of court. Also, any situation in which an officer is involved in a fatal encounter where a weapon was discharged and there is no bodycam footage should result in the office serving 25-30 years mandatory minimum sentence in a state penitentiary.

I've had a cop turn his camera off and bash my face in. When we got to the station I had to sign a form saying I did the injuries to myself or I was going to be denied food/toilet. I hadn't even commited a crime and then the revenue raising cocksucker added a charge for assaulting police. I complained about it and at the end of their investigation they told me "if they do it again we'll speak to them". I ended up beating the charge but I had to spend 6 months in jail while court proceeded.

I love them. They protect me from false allegations, show what shitbags criminals actually are, make court as easy as "roll the footage," and deter people from resisting or hurting me because they know they're being recorded.

I'll be one to say not all officers are entirely benevolent in every situation, but the bad ones are few and far between. Cameras have weeded a lot of them out by now. They still aren't all gone, so you're going to see a lot more videos that make us look bad. Put them in perspective and realize that's one guy out of millions. You're going to see bad contacts, don't let them make you hate the legitimately good cops.
