There are so many vacant buildings in East Germany that you can get property dirt cheap. Situation might have changed a bit thanks to muh refugee crisis, but a friend of mine bought an abandoned farmhouse for around 8k Euro. He had to invest another ~20k for renovation, but overall we're talking less than 30k €. For a whole house and enough land to grow veggies for his family.
