You have to realize that fracking costs much more than other methods, additionally they require different refineries to process. With oil being cheap, the shale industry relies on cheap debt..a common theme across all of the financialized world. Emergency level artificially low interest rates make debt cheap..that's it. Companies are quite literally taking out debt, buying back their own shares..aka..stock buybacks (which are now at record highs). So the current financialized economic system is now RELIANT on cheap debt with interest rates never normalizing again. This is the end of the road, nearly 45% of corporate debt bonds are rated JUNK. So..as you can see..either we have a deflationary depression, hyper inflation, or WW3. Shale oil is just not sustainable unless oil costs more and since the global economy is slowing down pushing down prices, they have to go even further in debt.
