Is what we are supposed to want; a family, cars, a house, a good job. Is this all a way to control us? To keep our noses to the grind stone, constantly working towards a goal that is either unattainable or purely a lie? I have a family, a job, a house, 2 cars. But everyday I wake up more depressed than the last. I've been homeless and eaten from trashcans. I've woken up with roaches crawling over me. I've slept behind houses and in my car. So i know what having nothing feels like. And having nothing feels better. I either do not understand what I want or I do not want for anything and I am being lied too. Why cant I just be happy? Is there a real goal I am working toward or is it just a dream?

I was listening to this podcast about American involvement in the Russian civil war (as in troops on the ground) and the high opinion a lot of Russian peasants showed Americans (especially compared to the British who were in overall command) really touched me. But I still don't know if that dream ever existed, America was already jewified at that point.

I do, this is my second time working here. I escaped Walmart the first time by joining the AirForce, then I got out after my contract ended, now I'm back where I started except now I can go to college without massive amounts of debt. Which is what I'm doing now.
My brother in law who worked here with me before I left took out loans to go to school. He finally escaped and makes $80k a year even though he still has debt.
I feel like I'm going backwards but it's whatever I need the extra cash.

For most of human history the wealth of the average American was something that only a precious few could obtain. Social mobility is still difficult, but it's easier then it used to be. It's like people think that the American dream means that everyone will eventually be rich if they work hard. That's ridiculous. The American dream is that it's POSSIBLE to succeed no matter what your situation is when you begin. So yes the American dream exists but no that doesn't mean it's easy to become obscenely wealthy.
As for you, there are any number of reasons why you don't feel happy but I don't really think being 'happy' is that important. What even is 'happy' I haven't felt anything like that in my life. You should try to focus on your family instead of dwelling on your happiness or lack there of. Your feelings won't live on after you are gone, but your children and the legacy you leave them will.
The only thing that will make you happy is devoting yourself to something greater then your own happiness/gratification.
