If everyone beneath them was no longer in debt, it would create people that could compete with them on homes, on women, even on jobs, because they'd be more geographicly mobile without mountains of debt.

I'm more inclined to think that student debt interest should be frozen while being repaid, and that the government should offer some sort of payment match for people that were inundated with debt.

It keeps some sort of responsibility for the debtors, but also provides a way for an effectively lost generation to become financially viable.

Business as usual isn't going to work forever. You can't have an entire caste of people who will never be able to afford homes, or children.

A better option that doesn't fuck with the economy is let student loans be dischargeable through bankruptcy again, but you forfeit your degree and the college expunges your record. Genuinly destitute people will have an out, while the middle class people paying the mimimum payment each month and spending the rest on their mortgage, kids, and vacations don't just get a free 50k they want but don't need.

You leave college after years of being told about the median starting college graduate salary. And it was true for the most part, until the recession.

You did your research, and the debt would be worth it, it would be paid off in a few years tops. But then you get out and boomers refuse to retire, only job openings are mcjobs, or kike employers that realize they can demand 20 years experience for an entry level position, for sub entry level pay and get it.

No experience? No family connections that guaranteed a job out of college no matter the economy? You were screwed.

Nearly a decade later, the economy is stronger, but now co me companies want to hire young just out of college workers, not the 30 something guy who has only a little experience after jumping from McJob to McJob. 4) zero dollar payments count towards the 25 year payoff total
5) work for 25 years and bide your time
6) loan is forgiven at 25 year mark--my total contribution: $0
7) return to america with savings (if its even worth returning to at that point).
