I found Lavey entertaining, because I wasn't foolish enough to take him seriously. He always freely admitted that his "Church Of Satan" was just a goofy carnival sideshow act. His book "The Compleat Witch" has quite a bit of highly useful practical knowledge, however.
LaVey was a known plagiarist. His "Bible" is mostly plagiarized from "Might Is Right" by Ragnar Redbeard. It is mostly principles of anarchy with some Enochian chants and 'hail satan' sprinkled here and there. "The Compleat Witch", however, contains some profound matchmaking secrets, and a bunch of good old carny tricks for reading and manipulating people. I personally believe LaVey plagiarized that material, most likely from an unpublished Jewish matchmaker's manual. It's just too useful of information to be LaVey's personal work, in my opinion.

Some satanists make that claim. Other satanists (temple of set, for example)admit they worship a literal devil. The reason why some satanists claim atheism is because they don't need you to worship an actual devil to erode Christianity.

before reading it I too was a bit cautious on what it would contain. After reading it I actually found it very educational. Nothing in it talks about evil, being bad, killing, drinking blood as I expected. It actually talks about being a human, being responsible and not being a faggot (don't let anyone push you around and always enact revenge to make sure no one gets away with their shitty actions against you).
