Alexander's basic argument is that the American Prison Industrial Complex is the modern equivalent of Jim Crow because of how it disproportionately affects blacks, and having a felony conviction on your record not only strips you of your right to vote, but makes it really difficult to get a job. It goes on to argue that predictive policing is similarly racist because it ends up directing cops to patrol areas with large black populations and profile blacks as criminals.

What I brought up in class discussion was basically just a college leftist-friendly version of the "Do you know how much crime niggers actually commit?" argument. Predictive policing is basically race blind to start, and ends up targeting blacks because 13 do 50. As AltHype points out in one of his videos, if you scrubbed the question of race from all predictive policing algorithms and reports, you'd just end up targeting areas with lots of liquor stores, check-cashing places, and high welfare and menthol cigarette consumption.

Essentially, Alexander's book does the typical leftist play of pointing at a massive disparity, and blaming white racism for the problem instead of looking at blacks and their culture.
