Because there are memories of when times were good. That was a time after WWII when things were ok for awhile until communism collapsed under its own inefficiencies. The collapse made things way worse. They don't realize that the economic problems were caused by the communism. China was able to avoid it by implementing limited, capitalistic reforms after seeing what happened in the USSR.
