LOL the US public was VERY anti-war after WW1. FDR wanted in, sure... But it is Congress who declared war. Granted we've moved away from the Constitution on that point since.
It has come out since (been declassified) that we KNEW Pearl Harbor was going to get struck. And letting it happen - letting ourselves get attacked - was the only fucking way America was getting into that war. There was no other way to sell it at that time.
Now if Germany had told Japan to fuck off and condemned their attack against us, the US public was only even going to support going to war with Japan, and Japan alone. What happened instead was we put the Pacific campaign on cruise control while we dealt with saving England's ass first. We only focused on Japan after Germany fell.

The fighting in Moscow would have been Stalingrad-tier. But that doesn't mean Stalin would just shrug and say "well we tried".
Taking the city would badly hurt Soviet logistics, but with Lend-lease kicking in, they would survive, probably meaning the Allies would take Berlin.

When you look at WW2 through the eyes of WW1... it is hard to see how Germany does not go to war. As for the country itself - it would have been interesting to see how it played out.. when you take out the war and the holocaust Germany would have just been a weirdly occult version of Sweden. With Stalin on the path he was - war was going to come at some point...
