It's sad. This is an actual good thread, but no one is replying. The fall of Germany after world war 1, including it's economic and social erosion, is fascinating and yet I never learned any of it in school. We were taught about the Nazis, but we never learned about what caused them.

bump for epic flag

>what caused them
France and Sweden, who fucked up the budding German unity in Thirty Years' War, killing 30% of German-speaking Europeans.

Strongest country in Europe. Great economy. Traditional society, not liberal degenerates like in Britain or France. Truly a model for all european nations. Great future, until it went negative IQ and allied with the Austro-Hungarians.

What about the Kaiser and Bismarck?

Alright. The German Empire was pretty based. Definitely had a better chance of winning in ww1 than Germany did in ww2

Nope, never mentioned at all. Only Hitler and some of his closest supporters. I had to learn the rest at the library.

I recommend Ernst Junger’s “Storm of Steel”

It’s a personal account of a soldier who fought for the Kaiserreich during WW1

Very nice nation. Just went down the pooper because of ww1.

Sounds good, might check it out

Kaiser to Tsar, July 31

Berlin, 31. July 1914

On your appeal to my friendship and your call for assistance began to mediate between your and the austro-hungarian Government. While this action was proceeding your troops were mobilised against Austro-Hungary, my ally. thereby, as I have already pointed out to you, my mediation has been made almost illusory.

I have nevertheless continued my action. I now receive authentic news of serious preparations for war on my Eastern frontier. Responsibility for the safety of my empire forces preventive measures of defence upon me. In my endeavours to maintain the peace of the world I have gone to the utmost limit possible. The responsibility for the disaster which is now threatening the whole civilized world will not be laid at my door. In this moment it still lies in your power to avert it. Nobody is threatening the honour or power of Russia who can well afford to await the result of my mediation. My friendship for you and your empire, transmitted to me by my grandfather on his deathbed has always been sacred to me and I have honestly often backed up Russia when she was in serious trouble especially in her last war.

The peace of Europe may still be maintained by you, if Russia will agree to stop the milit. measures which must threaten Germany and Austro-Hungary.

Willy

this

fuck russia, germany should have won that war

I'll be sure to give it a read. It is always interesting to learn about war from those who actually experienced it first hand.

The Germany army fuckin annihilated Russia during WW1 so hard they were the main reason the Romanov dynasty collapsed

Why was the German Empire so superior to the Russians? Like in industry etc? Russia had a far larger population

Germany had way more competent officers during WW1 that made it there by merit

Ludendorff was famous because he single handedly caused an army in Belgium to o surrender by banging on a front door with the butt of his saber and captured the enemy officers

Ludendorff was also responsible for a fuckload if British soldiers dying at Somme

Germans are superior in terms of military officers, equipment, strategy and shitton of railroad, generals are based on merit an not only based on being an aristocrat, they would often use quality>quantity rather than sending meat bags in machine guns

I know that. But why was the Russian Empire so backward by this time? What were their greatest flaws?

Russia just begun to industrialize while germans already did. Germany was concerned that given 5-10 more years, Russia will also industrialize and become unstoppable.

They thought the same before ww2 as well, not knowing Stalin already achieved it.

Indeed, but why was Russia so slow to industrialise?

They had been doing great without it, so they were slow to adopt it.
Large parts of society (both upper and lower) opposed it and believed it to be unnecessary.
Rapid industrialization would require many foreign specialists.
Other reasons.

They were only 1-2 decades behind, not 100 years.

Best time and place in history. A shame that it didn't last, but all good things end at some point. At least they went out like champions. The whole world had to unite to try and beat the German Empire. And they had to get controlled opposition inside Germany to betray the Germans by fagging out to the Treaty of Versailles.

Yeah I agree with you, industrialisation was very close. I remember some retard in a thread claimed that ‘Russia was never near industrialisation because it would crash the economy’
Looked it up and found no source on his answer and he claimed to have studied the Russian Empire in university

Yes, I don't think they even realized they had a problem before the war begun.

Bismarck carried out brilliant diplomacy and politics to create the most powerful country in Europe. Also he achieved a large net of alliances and influence:
- Greece, Bulgaria and Romania had greman kings
- alliance with Italy, Austri-HUngary and Romania
- close relations with Britain, Russia and the ottomans
After him, german politicians couldn't care less, they were more like "WE GERMANS, WE TOUGH". No surprise they lost.

I never learned about them in school. Ive been wanting to find some books on the two, as well as Tsar Nicholas II. The only thing school told me of Nicholas was that he killed innocent people, which probably is only a half truth at best.

Empires and Imperialism are doomed to failure. They're globalism in miniature. The assertion that your nation should have a say in how another nation is run. Eventually the other nations under your thumb will reach the same conclusion.
Plus the diversity undermines trust and morale.
In times of strength these are surmountable, in low ebbs, they can be fatal.
I'm partial, but the German Empire was pretty based. Bismarck cobbled together a nation a little too late to do anything about the Russian Empire.
