I think you underestimate the fragility of the construct we live in. 3 days without power or food and shit will hit the fan. We all know civil war is coming, good luck to you.
About 5 summers ago we had a really big heat wave like we are having now, just like it infact, and we then had a massive storm where trees were bending they almost touched the ground. We lost power for 12 days and it went back to being 100Fs. Military came in, we picked our MREs, and we lined single file to the grocery store cause they had no power either, and we still shopped for some food or necessities. They gave us some bags of ice and we used them in coolers. And then my friends and I went and turned on well water hose and sprayed each other down, laughing, and trying to "hit" her parents with our water. After we got power back on, we bought a gas powered house generator.
That's quite smart of you, but try to stay as indepented as possible. Make sure you can easily repair generators yourself or atleast have manuals right next to it.
That's one of the big reasons, I dont get solar panels... they help for you some years but if they break, well good luck with repairing that.
I literally sat in a lawn chair and sipped on ice cold drinks, in 100f summer heat wave, short shorts and a tank top, just watching the neighborhood, and my old lady neighbor brought me over some blueberry cobbler, which was really good. Then for dinners those nights I ate some really good MREs. They were delicious. I fucking love getting MREs. We buy them just to have them. Well when the storm hit I was waaaayyy out on a back road, made of dirt, we had to wait until the father cut away 2 trees to dig us out of there, but I was with my friend and that's when we jumped on her trampoline spraying the water hose. Her grandmother is the old lady who brought me the cobbler.
