With modern technology, it's becoming harder and harder to keep NK isolated from outside information. For years people have been smuggling in western media, south korean media, average citizens are starting to get access to the internet instead of just upper-tier party members.

So, as Kim Jong Un, you have to find the balance between maintaining your power structure and your people becoming exposed to western ideals like capitalism. Trump is a good ambassador for this, because he understands that Kim wants the prosperity and tourism without losing his status as Marshall. This isn't really about nukes - those are just an important asset for Kim because they have become a symbol of the self-determinist Juche ideology.
