In America, the Republican politicians don't want that kind of voter ID. What they do is they analyze the demographics of ID ownership. They'll let one sort of ID be used and not another based on which groups are most likely to hold each form of ID in order to maximize their share of the vote.

Republican legislators talk a lot about voter ID, but they don't ever suggest a federal ID to be given to all eligible citizens free of charge.

A drivers license alone isn't enough, you still need to be registered and all that. Fact is, assholes try to vote illegally all the time and they get caught all the time. There's zero evidence (Even after the presidents commission which carried out an investigation into the matter) that there is widespread, successful voter fraud affecting our elections. Just a bunch of dicks who think they can get away with it and end up catching criminal charges.
