I’m a New Yorker, too and let me say this city is literally the WORST place in this country hands down. Nothing compares to the smugness and condescending nature of these “people”. Intellectualism is dead, and the anti-whiteness in this city has ramped up like crazy even just in the past year.

My little "city" of 30k has no career opportunities, or any other offers a modern city. The gibs are bare min. The job choices are either Service based, or Factory. Though our crime is down, families are safe, and people are traditional for the most part and the Religion is majorly Christian (non-dom/catholic with some baptism mixed in for flavor) its 79% white and the rest is native/mexican/and tiny black. It's safe and quiet. So quiet you can hear a train coming tho at 3am on the opposite side of town. The people keep to themselves and will offer help if it's clear it is needed. Virtue singling is non-existent here. It's not a city if you wanna "live it up" and "party" and generally have fun. Though it's safe, the only crime is from meth and heroin addicts but it's petty crime. The people are openly racisct in terms of not being "pc" and open carry is the standard. The police due to having such a relaxed work place are kind and helpful. It generally feels like my city is stuck in the late 90s and early 2000s. Our radio stations are the same. If you do want a touch of degeneracy Las Vegas is 2 hours away. You can own land and make something of it and still work. It's a retirement community so that's all my "city" has to offer. I'm very happy here and I generally thought it was like this everwhere till I moved to the east coast and came back.

Forgot to mention fishing/hunting/camping is a big hobby here. Almost everyone partakes like Deer season started lately and everyone on my facebook (co-workers ) are posting their tags and gear. one last thing I moved from here to Florida and was abosultly disgusted with how shit was there. No common kindness and no empathy for anything it was just like hell I felt like. When I flew back home and was over my city I honestly felt some form of reassurance that everything would be okay.

Depends on the company. To earn decent money you have to be in Finance, Risk/Insurance or Tech. Advertising can pay OK once you're higher up but its a dead industry.

You live at the office 8.30-11 (often later) in finance or maybe 10-6 in tech.
There are a lot of sociopaths; which probably sounds funny if you've watched American Psycho or something, but then you actually meet people who can lie on the spot, who are totally unaffected by emotion and it's weird.

I work in legal tech and my spouse is an attorney so I'm well-familiar with the salaries. $180k is standard for first year associates at the major white shoe firms and associates can expect a good 10-15% annual raise (bonuses are also typically 10-20%, but can be as high as 50% depending on the firm and their bonus policy). Partners earn $300k+ base, but obviously, they reap the profits - the REALLY good ones make their money through premiums (deals like "give me $40 million upfront, not including billable time of me and my associates and I'll get this $80 billion merger done for you in 8 months").
