Gothic style was the new found soul of a culture. The west found itself and established itself. A spirit of adventure and optimism describes its style. Unending heights of the cathedrals. The mixture of light, colours and wall art, show the center of cultural spirit. The spirit of a people that strive for infinity and absolutism.
Baroque defined everything more. The middle aged culture reflected itself and got more refined. It created a sense for history and adopted things that older cultures invented in a similiar state of beeing. Most well known the antique styles.
Rococo marked the last step of growing, maturing the cultural style with splendor and pure divinity materialized in Architecture, especially interior architecture. Infinity was viewed from within, not just outside.
The industrial revolution marked the total downfall of art, due to the fact that it was the end of spirituality in the west. Materialism rised up and became the style.
Today its even worse. Architecture is just dissolution. Basic geometrical forms, abstract and vague forms. Just like a decomposing body, the body of western culture decomposes and its as ugly as a corpse is.
