That's not what that word means, Gaul and Gael aren't interchangeable. The Gauls were the indigenous Celtic inhabitants of France and Celtic culture in France was completely wiped out by the Romans until Celtic culture was reintroduced to Brittany in the early middle-ages by Britons fleeing Anglo-Saxon invasions.

The Gaels are a type of Celtic people that originally come from Ireland but today inhabit Scotland and the Isle of Mann as well. The only real invaders these nations had to contend with were vikings (who were defeated in Ireland and Scotland, and half-assimilated into the IoM which is why Manx is very unique and much more Germanic-like than other varieties of Gaelic), the Normans (who assimilated, as they did everywhere they conquered) and the English (who attempted to Anglicize these regions forcefully, and succeeded more or less but not to a great enough degree that they could be considered thoroughly Anglicized and non-Celtic)

It's also worth noting that just as the term for Scotland/Ireland/IoM is "Gaelic" Brittany, Wales and Cornwall aren't Gaelic. They're Britons.

The Celts actually originated in modern day Austria with what's caled Halstatt culture and proliferated from there. The Gaels came from Iberia after Celtic culture had already been firmly established on the continent for some time.

The Celts and the Germanics had no beef for most of history really. Back when continental Celts were a thing the Germanics were a complete unknown and the actual enemy was the Romans. By the time Germanics started invading westward Celtic culture had already been long wiped out on the continent.

The only time Celts and Germanics would really fight during the medieval era was with the initial Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain when they drove the Britons out of most of England into Wales and Brittany with some Britons remaining in Cornwall and Cumbria. In fact during the Anglo-Saxon heydey it was very culturally close to the Gaels and arguably was much more strongly influenced by the Celtic cultures of the British Isles than it was to their continental Germanic cousins.
