Two things that I just can't understand about your politics, and the Internet has failed to explain them to me. Maybe I'm just stupid, but indulge me.
1) What the fuck is "gerrymandering" and why/how is it racist? I just can't wrap my mind around what this thing even is. Please Jow Forums explain it to me.
Okay so we vote for victory of a district and districts vote based on most votes for the district to win a state and states do the same for an election.
Gerrymandering is when you attempt to move around district boundaries to swing a district or two which influences all above elections.
Kevin Morgan
2) How the fuck is it a "liberal" position to want to take guns away from citizens?? Excuse me, but I've lived most of my 25 years on this planet going by the simple, old-fashioned definition(s) of liberalism. >In my own words, a system of values that focuses on the individual and his LIBERTIES, especially from the government. The system where one's rights stop where the rights of another begin. Simple, happens to work.
So how is it "liberal" to want the GOVERNMENT to infringe on the right of the individual to bear arms, and not just any right, but a constitutional fucking right?
Gun grabbing homosexual supporting anti Americans go under the name liberal in the us they chose it for themselves.
Thomas Morris
But that's literally authoritarian. Why do civil rights advocates and such often refer to gerrymandering when talking about racial inequality in the US?
Luis Wright
Hell, why the hell are liberalism and conservatism even on the same spectrum? They aren't even the same ballpark, and yet in the US these things are seen as opposites of some stupid spectrum. Liberalism vs. Authoritarianism. Conservatism vs. Progressivism. That's how I see it, but then again I might be the crazy one.
The current government of a state gets to draw the voting districts, so if you draw the districts within a specific state to favor your party its called gerrmandering. People use the term incorrectly fairly often, mostly to cause confusion and accuse the other of "cheating".
>why/how is it racist
there are two answers to this, first anything that helps republicans win elections is considered racist by leftists and the media
second, minorities generally vote leftist so if you can put them all in a containment district and that gives a perma-leftist seat, but less seats for them to potentially win.
Mason Myers
so our senators are elected by how many senatorial electoral districts vote for them, not raw popular vote. Same for representatives.
Gerrymandering is where a party tries to redraw districts to make it so that districts contain a majority of one party's voters over the other, such that the party can hold more districts, even if they'd otherwise lose the popular vote.
Its called a gerrymander because when it was first attempted, a guy named gerry was doing it, and when youd look at his ridiculous districts on a map, they were twisty and serpentine line a salamander.
Brody Moore
Why don't sane Americans just call these ""liberals"" out on their bullshit and give them an accurate name? America at its core is very liberal, except that it didn't consider certain groups to be citizen/human in the early days, but you moved past that. I think it was bad to let (mostly)left-wing authoritarians just hijack the word "liberal" like that.
