LED lights are problem causers. Most of their lights are rated in the 5-7 kelvin range, which is closer to daylight, and can have issues with animals....including humans. Many studies indicate that these color lights can mess with individual circadian rhythm.

LEDs are more directional, thus less light polltion.

Sodium lamps are far superior to LED lights.
The light of sodium lamps might not be perfect to distinguish colours and it looks quite darker than LED light, but it's the best when it comes to contrast. You don't need to see the colour of the animal or the child crossing the street, but you need the contrast to distinguish it from the background and the surroundings and that's where sodium lamps excel.

sodium is fine for residential, but you and i both know theyre not helpful on the highway at night. progress needs to be made on that front, im tired of going through a rural highway and having to use car lights to estimate how close to the line the other car is.

Regular bulbs are far more aesthetic for street lights. LED's are more practical, though, I won't argue that. It's a rule of cool thing, in my opinion. I'd stay with regular bulbs.

Bright led lights with really high color tempeartures are distracting and cause headaches, and actually increase the rate of accidents. It's what originally inspired the program f.lux. City governments are too retarded to reasonably implement cooler temperature lights across the nation, best to just not fuck with it.

LED are just too damn efficient for the light out put. I put them on everything always stick with a 3000kevlin for residence 4000kelvin for commercial.

Left is more vibrant and safe imo.

unfortunately this is probably the best reason. improvements could be made, but it's a legitimate risk. we might end up with mandated LED lights everywhere or they would just fuck it up somehow.

Are you fucking retarded? Study after study and failed pilot project have shown that without the heat from the incandescent bulbs the lights will become iced and snow packed. The only solution is to install heates with the LED lambs which completely negates the energy saving and just adds to complexity thus adding another failure mode. Let me guess you are a business or marketing student, or even worse an environmentalist with zero practical experience.

Umm you can go with whatever colors you want really. I specifically bought some that produce a more warm light because the blue-ish light where messing with my sleep cycle too - including my monitor. I installed a night mode addon for my browser and that really helps too.

Anyhow there isn't a problem with LED technology itself for most places.

I've heard of those issues, but I don't think that is an engineering problem that can't be overcome. Also, we only get snow for 3-4 months, meaning 8 months of energy savings is worth it.

The main thing is that I just hate dim yellow lights and much prefer to have big bright white light at night.

Why? Do you have any idea of the cost of retrofitting 10's of thousands of high pressure sodium lamps with LEDs? It's not just changing the bulb. You need an entire new ballast and wiring harness for each, not to mention the heating pad. Plus, for traffic lights a heater is ineffective, unless we are talking about a fine wire mesh over the LED itself to keep it ice/snow free. It's a logistical nightmare, and if it were even remotely cost effective to do in libtard Canada it would have been done. How many man hours do you think are needed to dig up and rewire thousands of buried highway electrical substations along the 401 between Toronto and Montreal? It would be a nightmare. First rule of civic management: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I moved from a city that has lights the look the pic of the left to a city with these red lights. Fucking awful, the whole town looks like a run-down Bavarian diner at night.

All the new lights put up anywhere are LED. All the parking lot lights are being replaced with LED ones. We've had a few winters with them and they haven't died. So I don't think it's an insurmountable problem.

Give it 5 years. Parking lot light might work, besides most parking lots are private and don't involve tax dollars. Also parking lot lights are generally straight down and can be shrouded somewhat. Contrast that to the lights on a 20 meter tower along the 401. Not cheap or easy to replace, especially since they will need the ballast and wiring change. Wait 30-50 years when the current towers need to come down and replace the entire installation. Then it would probably be feasible. Like I mentioned, if it's not broke don't fix it.
