As someone who has been arguing more or less against Christianity in this thread, I need to support this post.
It is true that the Roman Empire was already rotting and dying, and that Christianity was a bit of band aid on it, to keep it together for a while longer. It wasn't what killed it. What killed it was the lack of technology to run something that big. No radio, no telegraph, no spreadsheets even, and the cumbersome roman numerals... try doing math like (9852*342)/45 with roman numerals, its a 10 minute equation. Can't run that much sophistication with these primitive administrative tools.
