Keep your eyes open for a scandal using deepfakes. The first one is going to purposely be a very low quality, low stakes incident that is easy to disprove. A disposable blist celeb, or already unpopular politician. They'll blame China or Russia. This is just a setup to help prime the population for the next one, which will be much higher quality, and much more difficult to disprove. They will let that one simmer in the media for a little while to make sure the awareness is spread far and wide, then they will disprove it to make sure and demonstrate that deep fakes are completely possible. They will probably repeat this a few times and then they will release a real one, something relatively tame, a non-deepfake, to see how it plays. They will be looking for apathy. "Who cares? Probably fake anyway..." Eventually they will be inoculated against this vulnerability.
