A few below average cold days a year, easily explained by the weakened polar vortex (due to a weakened jet stream, which in turn is due to above average arctic temperatures). We have seen extreme cold temperatures in parts of Europe, Asia and North America in the past decades because of the increased temperature gradient in the northern hemisphere, which has altered and weakened the polar vortex, instead of being more contained and straight, it gets more wobbled and disjointed. This allows very cold arctic air to inundate regions where it normally cannot reach due to the power of the polar vortex and jet stream helping to contain it in the arctic.

Let us be clear here, when you see extreme cold weather events in the midwest, this is because of this phenomenon. It's not because the midwest is ambiently getting freezing cold temperatures, it's because air from the arctic is essentially seeping down into those regions of the world and lingering there as these processes weaken.

In fact, this same phenomenon also allows warmer air from lower latitudes to penetrate into the arctic as well, which we see in temperature trends in western Canada and Alaska over the last decade, where we are seeing year after year of above average winter temperatures in those regions, while parts of the midwest have seen lower than average temperatures. It's all related to the polar vortex.

Regardless, your argument really doesn't have any merit, because we have seen consistent decades of warmer and warmer global average temperatures, with the vast majority of the Earth's hottest years on record falling within the last two decades. This is a long term trend (ie climate), not weather. This June, and likely this July as well will easily be in the top 3 hottest on record, and 2019 is on pace to be within the top 3-4 hottest years on record so far.

Nothing new, actually you're very wrong on this. Alaska has seen temperature trends that are very worrisome over the last decade, it's been going on for years now. Warmer than average winters, warmer than average summers, consistently year after year, hotter summers year after year. In addition, lower levels of sea ice formation in the arctic, which also has a large impact on the weather and climate of Alaska.
