If, suspending disbelief, a mosquito drilling into your arm for blood could be allowed to have a virtue signaling contest with you and a 3rd party who's interest is more mosquitoes biting people, then the conversation between the three would devolve to the one you see playing out here, now, where diseased and parasitic members are purposefully bringing their sucking needle to you, but also as they drill, they cry out agony as you become aware of its existence.
Turn the question inside out with a dual double-negative. It's not that the higher group has something good that the lower are trying to get no, then they would be grateful. No, it's that the lower downs have something that the higher group doesn't have.
